About Us

Willow the DogIn the spirit of St. Francis, we felt called to feed the stray dogs that come to the Catholic church in Whiteriver, Az on the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation.  In 2011 Willow, a stray who has eaten at the church, left 3 of her puppies at the church back door.  Fr. Eddie followed her and found 6 more puppies under an abandoned building.  Willow knew she could not care for her puppies and she brought them to the priest who had been feeding her.

A couple of months later a litter of 6 puppies were born at the church.  Unknown people steal the puppies from the mother before they are old enough to leave their mothers.  I rescued the last two puppies.  They were only 4 weeks old.  A month later, another litter of six was born at the church.  We found 2 puppies who were only 4 weeks old, in different places on the church grounds.  The other 4 were taken by unknown persons before they were old enough to leave their mother.  I rescued the puppies found on the church grounds.

That gave me the idea to start Save Our Dogs.  Since then, we have adopted out two of the young dogs.  We have spayed the females I rescued and two females at the church.  We have neutered the male I rescued and two of the males who live at the church.  The dogs I have are current with Rabies and shots.  We had an unexpected large vet bill when Willow was hit by a car and had to be put down.

We are feeding the dogs I rescued and the strays at the church.  Fr. Eddie helps me as much as he can.  We are a small Franciscan Parish and have lost over $35,000.00 in grant money for Fr. Eddie to operate 3 churches for this year.  I recieve no money from the Tribe or the church members.  The unemployment rate on the reservation is about 85%.  We have a problem with the Rocky Mountain Spotted Tick on the reservation.  We need tick meds and have had one of the strays at the church treated by the vet for an abcessed tick bite.  The shortage of money prevents me from doing more.

Our Mission

ButterscotchIn the spirit of St. Francis,  we try to ease the suffering of the starving and sick or injured dogs who come to the church by providing them with food and medical treatment.  We are commited to keep the adoptable dogs in a safe, loving enviroment until we can find loving, forever homes for them.
